Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering

Length of schooling: 4 years (undergraduate)

Professional History and Evolution: The Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering program at Hunan University of Science and Technology officially began enrolling undergraduate students in 2009. Over the past decade, in accordance with the requirements of the national Catalogue of Undergraduate Majors in General Higher Education Institutions, this program has been guided by the needs of the Internet of Things, intelligent manufacturing, robotics, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other fields in information perception and transmission. It takes electronics, photons, information, and their related components, electronic systems, and information networks as its research objects, focusing on optoelectronic intelligent sensing and communication technology. With the educational philosophy of developing a distinctive undergraduate program in a local institution of higher learning, the program has been carefully planned and constructed.

Professional Features: (1) A professional talent cultivation model oriented towards advanced intelligent manufacturing, with curriculum settings that deeply integrate optoelectronic and information communication technologies, intelligent perception technologies, electronic circuit technologies, and advanced manufacturing technologies. (2) Emphasis on cultivating students' practical and innovative abilities. Relying on the Hunan Provincial Physics and Optoelectronic Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center and the Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Sensors and New Sensing Materials, students' practical and innovative abilities are enhanced through open innovation experiment platforms, comprehensive curriculum design, academic competitions, and experimental practice. (3) The cultivation model emphasizes the organic unity of practical teaching and theoretical teaching, and the organic unity of knowledge cultivation and quality cultivation.

Cultivation Objectives: Focusing on the national development strategy of manufacturing power, this program aims to cultivate high-quality engineering and technical talents and management personnel with strong engineering practical abilities, strong innovation abilities, and strong competitiveness, who are urgently needed by emerging industries and the new economy such as optical communication, electronic circuits, information engineering, and intelligent manufacturing. Specifically, it is reflected in: mastering the necessary mathematical and natural science 基础知识 and corresponding professional knowledge in the fields of signal and optical communication, electronic circuits, intelligent sensing, and optoelectronic information engineering; being able to carry out scientific research, planning and design, technological development, manufacturing application, and engineering management of systems, equipment, and devices in the field of optoelectronic and information engineering; possessing good learning abilities, practical abilities, and innovative abilities; having the ability to solve complex engineering problems; being able to track and master cutting-edge technologies in professional-related fields, and having a certain sense of globalization and international vision.

Faculty Team: This program currently has 10 faculty members. Among them, there is 1 professor, 3 associate professors, and 6 lecturers. A total of 10 teachers hold doctoral degrees, accounting for 100% of all teachers. There are 4 master's supervisors. In terms of age, 2 are aged 46-60, 7 are aged 36-45, and 1 is under 35. The faculty team has a reasonable distribution of professional titles, ages, academic qualifications, and academic backgrounds, with appropriate distribution of professional and academic directions. The professional team has undertaken the construction of 2 provincial-level first-class courses and 3 university-level first-class courses. Many teachers have won honors such as Hunan Provincial General College Young Backbone Teacher Training Object, Hunan Provincial Young Teacher Teaching Expert, and Hunan Provincial General Higher Education Institution Teacher Classroom Teaching Competition Award. In recent years, the faculty team has actively undertaken national-level, national "863" Plan, provincial and ministerial-level, and university-enterprise cooperation scientific research projects. They have guided students to actively participate in national and provincial academic competitions, winning more than 40 national and provincial-level awards.
